Shop till you Drop A2 – Activity 2

Aim of Activity

40 minutes

Activity 2a Language presentation (mini-activity)

To introduce the three examples of the target language presented in the video (order of adjectives), and elicit the order of adjectives. 

 

Activities 2b & 2c Language practice 

To extend students’ vocabulary (shopping/fashion adjectives), and practise order of adjectives in the context of fashion & shopping.

Steps for Students

Activity 2a

  • Do you remember the three things Bella and Tom bought in the video? Do you remember how they looked? Look at the board and put the adjectives in the correct order to remember the three things they bought.  
  • (last example) In English, there is an order of adjectives you should follow. Remember the adjectives describing Bella’s shoes and bracelet and Tom’s watch.  
  • Put the categories in the correct order of adjectives.  

 

Activity 2b

  • You are going to learn some new adjectives to describe clothes. These adjectives will help you describe what you may buy in the future.  
  • There are four categories in this task- Opinion, Size, Pattern and Material.
  • Drag and drop each card into the correct category.  

 

Activity 2c

  • Do you remember the new words from Activity 2c? You are now going to use these words to practise the order of adjectives to describe clothes.  
  • Unjumble the adjectives. Remember that adjectives describe nouns so the first word will be an article, and the last word should be a noun.

  • Watch the video and answer the 9 questions.  

Activities 2a, 2b and 2c can be skipped. You can go straight to task 2d to practise order of adjectives.  

 

Activity 2a: Language Presentation

  1. This is a language presentation stage, and the activity should be done as a whole class to elicit the target language and the order of adjectives 
  2. Drag and drop to rearrange each sentence into correct order.

 

Activity 2b: Sorting

This activity introduces more adjectives relating to fashion. Students will have further opportunity to use this language in Activities 2c & 4.  

  1. This activity should be done in pairs or small groups.  
  2. Drag and drop each item into its correct group.

 

Activity 2c: Unjumble

This activity helps students practise the order of adjectives and fashion adjectives introduced in Activity 2b.  

📍 Point it out to students or elicit that adjectives describe nouns, so articles need to be used before adjectives + noun:

  1. This activity should be done in pairs or small groups.  
  2. Drag and drop words to rearrange each sentence into its correct order.
  3. Make sure students can see the order of adjectives table/rules for their reference when they are doing Activity 2c.

This is a follow up task to practise the target language (order of adjectives).

  1. Play the video and ask students to answer the 9 questions.  
  2. Q9 is a revision of the language (adjectives) used to answer Q’s 1-8.
