Shop till you Drop A2 – Activity 1

Aim of Activity

15-20 minutes

To check students’ understanding of the video, sensitise them to the use of subject questions and the use and order of adjectives through comprehension questions, and further develop their speaking skills by encouraging comprehensive and extended answers to comprehension questions.

Steps for Students

  1. In pairs or small groups, remember what you know from the video about Bella, Kelly and Tom.  
  2. Read the 15 short statements on the left about Bella, Kelly and Tom and what they think, like and bought. Drag and drop the cards so there are 5 statements matching each character.

  1. In pairs or small groups, remember what you know about the things Bella, Kelly and Tom bought and talked about in the video. Do you remember what they bought, where they bought it and how much they paid?  
  2. Drag and drop the cards on the left to match each item on the right to check how much you remember.  

There are 2 activities focussing on: 

  • general comprehension of the text (Activity 1a)  
  • listening for detail (Activity 1b) 

 Both activities can be run individually, in small groups or as a whole class.

📍Before students start the activity, get them to remember as much as they can about the three items the characters in the video talked about (shoes, bracelet, smart watch). In pairs, students answer the three questions:

    • Who bought it/them? 
    • Where did they buy it/them?  
    • How much did they pay?

Get students to complete Task 1b and check their ideas.
